Photo guide

How to photograph your connector

We need a clear photo of the front face of the connector — the end that plugs in, where you can see the pin holes. That single view tells us more than anything else. Photos of the back or the side can’t be identified.

Correct: the front face of an automotive connector, photographed straight on with the pin holes visible
Yes — do this

The FACE, straight on

This is the one we need. Point the camera square at the end that plugs in, so every pin hole and the locking tab are visible.

Wrong: the back of the connector where the wires enter
Most common mistake

Not the back

The wire end looks the same on hundreds of different connectors. We can’t identify it from behind.

Wrong: the connector photographed from the side
Avoid

Not from the side

A side-on angle hides the pin layout completely. Turn the plug to face you before you shoot.

Wrong: photo of the connector that is out of focus and blurry
Avoid

Not far away or blurry

Fill the frame in good light. If it’s small, dark or out of focus we can’t count the pins.

Step 1

Take or upload your photos

Line the face of the connector up inside the guide below — it sets the distance and angle for you. You can add up to 4 photos.

Tap Use camera to line up the front face of the connector — or upload photos from your device.

Your photos stay on this page until you send them.

Step 2

Tell us about it

A few details help us narrow it down fast.

No photos attached yet. Use the camera or upload buttons above and they’ll be attached here automatically.
  • Photograph the front face first — the end that plugs in, with the pin holes showing
  • Include any numbers moulded into the plastic housing
  • Put a coin or ruler beside it if you can — it shows the scale
  • Tell us if it’s the male or female half you need
